Pain Validity Testing
Doctors rely on anatomical tests such as MRI, X-Rays, and CT scans to make a diagnosis. These are valuable anatomical tests that rely on “pictures”.
Unfortunately there are many injuries that cannot be seen – and thereby “pictured” – which nonetheless cause pain in the absence of any obvious source.
Simply stated we cannot see pain. Thus relying on a picture of something that cannot be seen is counterintuitive and helps explain why there are so many cases of undiagnosed pain that negatively impact the lives of patients – sometimes over periods of years.
Pain is a Physiological condition. This means measuring a response to a stimulus. In such circumstances doctors would need to use Physiological tests such as: Provocative discograms, Bone Scans, Facet Blocks, PET Scans, Root Blocks, Indium 111 Scans, Peripheral Nerve Blocks and Neurometer studies for sensory nerves.
BUT there is a much simpler and more effective way!
Recognizing the need to improve Pain Testing Methodology – a research team at Johns Hopkins Hospital and School of Medicine applied the laws of retrospective analysis, pattern recognition and prospective predictive analytics and poured over 10,000 patient records (from a 17+ year period) to design three (3) tests that collectively make up Pain Validity Testing.
By combining Bayesian Probability Logic and the power of Artificial Intelligence algorithms the tests have generated a remarkable 96% match between diagnoses of former Johns Hopkins Hospital doctors and the diagnoses generated by the tests.
The research also helped quantify the magnitude of the need (as shown in the following statistics) regarding the prevalence of Chronic Pain throughout the body:
- 40% to 80% of chronic pain patients are misdiagnosed;
- 98% of the time X-rays will miss damage compared to flexion-extension X-rays and open-mouth odontoid views;
- 78% of the time MRIs will miss damaged discs compared to provocative discograms;
- 56% of the time CT will miss pathology compared to a 3D-CT;
- 7 days is the average time that sprains and strains last (if a patient still hurts after this period it is likely something else is wrong).
Among the strengths of Pain Validity Testing is that the methodology augments patient visits by asking questions most doctors don’t have time to ask (considering the average patient visit is 10 to 11 minutes).
The creators of the Pain Validity Testing have 1000+ testimonials from Patients, Doctors and Personal Injury Attorneys. Other very positive indicators include:
- 89% of patients reduced narcotic use. Narcotics do not help chronic pain. Nerve damage, inflammation, vascular compression and other chronic injuries, do not feel better with narcotics. The test provides definition of the type of tissue which is damaged, so the doctor can select the correct non-narcotic medication specific to the tissue damage.
- 45% reduced medical office visits when used in conjunction with proper medical tests and treatments.
Three (3) Powerful Tools you can use today!
There are three (3) tests included in the PVT Tools are:
- The Pain Validity Test (PVT). There is no methodology for quantifying how much pain a person is in! That said, it is generally accepted that if someone has a broken leg he/she will have an associated degree of pain. But what happens when the X-ray is normal and the patient is unable to function? The Pain Validity Test is a bridge that converts a patient's subjective complaint of pain into objective proof of damage (validating the patient's claim) - when other tests have failed to reveal the underlying cause(s). PVT predicts with 95% accuracy that a patient (given the correct medical test) will have an abnormal test outcome - and thereby identifying damage that verifies the patient's pain complaint. PVT's accuracy is documented by 8 published research articles on 794 patients. For those working in the Personal Injury (PI) field, PVT protects both the patient and doctor - by proving the patient has a valid complaint (and is not faking symptoms to get drugs) while providing a doctor with documentation/validation for testing and treatment. On that note, PVT is highly effective as a basis for securing pre-authorization. The PVT has been admitted as evidence in 30 court cases in 9 states. PVT refutes insurance claims of faking or malingering (which again is very valuable for personal injury cases). The PVT test has 22 questions with 742 possible answers and requires about 12 to 16 minutes to complete; it is available in English and Spanish. NOTE: for PI use this test must be conducted in the Doctor's office in the presence and under the guidance of a licensed Health Professional who must attest and sign they witnessed the test being administered.
- The Pain Diagnostic Test (PDT) uses 72 questions with 2008 possible answers to provide a patient history and current status - before the patient visit. It is available in English and Spanish. This detailed patient assessment provides a narrative summary and diagnosis for the doctor to use in his or her evaluation. PDT-based diagnoses have a 96% correlation with diagnoses of Johns Hopkins Hospital doctors - and predict with 100% accuracy what a doctor will find if he/she operates. In addition to being accurate, PDT testing saves time and improves clinical efficiency (enabling doctors to focus on helping more patients instead of on typing and dictation). The PDT test report is designed to be printed for easy copying and pasting in the chart. PDT typically takes 30 to 60 minutes to complete (depending on the problems a patient experiences); it is purposely designed to be overly inclusive, and lists all possible diagnoses a patient will have, ranks them in descending order (from most likely to least likely) and never misses any - as supported in 3 articles. NOTE: for PI use this test must be conducted in the Doctor's office in the presence and under the guidance of a licensed Health Professional who must attest and sign they witnessed the test being administered.
- Headache Diagnostic Test (HDT) helps identify post-concussion syndrome. HDT also provides correct medical diagnoses for the (35%-70% of patients) diagnosed with migraine headaches - despite not meeting the diagnostic criteria. More importantly this test diagnoses traumatic brain injury (TBI) which is missed in cervical injury cases 60%-74% of the time. In terms of accuracy HDT is proven to provide a 94% correlation with Johns Hopkins Hospital doctors and is easily administered - saving time and improving efficiency so doctors can focus more on patient care and less on administration. The PDT test has 92 questions with 939 possible answers, in English or Spanish, and takes about 30 to 70 minutes to complete. NOTE: for PI use this test must be conducted in the Doctor's office in the presence and under the guidance of a licensed Health Professional who must attest and sign they witnessed the test being administered.
This collection of proven tests helps doctors determine the correct diagnosis so they can administer the correct treatment. PVT is accurate and quick: upon conclusion of the tests a patient’s answers are put through a powerful AI engine which delivers a diagnosis with a remarkable 96% correlation with diagnoses of Johns Hopkins Hospital Doctors within 5 minutes including:
- A complete and full narrative description of symptoms
- Summary of possible diagnosis and differential diagnoses
- For the commercial level tests: a list of proper tests to use, using the John Hopkins Hospital model, based on the correct diagnosis harnessing the power of Artificial Intelligence.
